Seattle Met: THE WHEELS OF CHANGE. Doc Wilson directs Peace Peloton, which, rain or shine, sets out to support Seattle Black-owned businesses.

In April, the Peace Peloton will bring its message of “economic reform for Black people” to the cycling community in Washington, D.C., with a ride to Black-owned businesses in the nation’s capital. We joined the socially distant “Fresh Air” ride in Seattle on Jan. 20 to pedal with friends, ogle the cool bikes, and breathe the winds of hope and change.

Sadly and embarrassingly, as many of us know well, systemic racism is more than evident in the recreational activities we love: cycling, running, hiking, skiing, climbing…

The Peace Peloton, a Seattle nonprofit created in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement, will give away van Garderen’s team-issued Cannondale SuperSix EVO Race bike to one lucky donor.
